Currently a jewel in the crown of London department stores, Harrods was once a small store in Stepney, East London, founded by Charles Henry Harrod in 1834. Expanded in 1849, the department store now acquires a 1,000,000 square foot and boasts it’s motto ‘Omnia Omnibus Ubique’ which translates to ‘all things for all people, everywhere’. With over 330 different departments ranging from fashion with brands such as Gucci and Dior, to food departments such as Krispy Kremes. The stores previous owner Mohamed Al-Fayed sold the department store to Qatar holdings, the sovereign wealth fund of the emirate of Qatar. Known for the attractive lighting covering the outside of the store with over 12,000 light bulbs, it is estimated that on a daily basis over 100,000 people visit the department store, which can rise up to over 300,000 during busy periods such as Christmas.
